Harold Lindsay White and Shirley May Granland

Harold Lindsay White

Harold Lindsay White (known as Lindsay or Tubby) was the last of the five children of George and Myra (nee Egglestone) White. He was born at Birchip, Victoria on 7 August 1917.

Along with his siblings, he attended Tempy Primary School.

Lindsay served in the Australian Army during World War Two. He enlisted at Royal Park, Melbourne on 10 June 1940 when aged 22. On his enlistment application he described himself as a charworker living at Tempy.

He spent almost 5 1/2 years in the army, serving in transport-related units in the Northern Territory, the Middle East, New Guinea and Borneo.

He held the rank of lance corporal when he was discharged from the army on 6 December 1945.

Following the war, Lindsay farmed at Tempy.

In 1950, at the age of 33, he married Shirley May Granland, 23, daughter of Robert Francis and Muriel Annie (nee Hatton) Granland. The couple had 4 children - Christine, Kathryn, Brian and Karen.

Shirley May White The family lived at the Peppers Plain property outside Warracknabeal before Lindsay and Shirley eventually moved into town, to live at 30 Milbourne Street.

Lindsay died at Warracknabeal on 5 July 1968 when aged 50. In her later years, Shirley was in care at Nazareth House, Ballarat. She died on 23 May 1999 at Ballarat, aged 71. Both Lindsay and Shirley are buried at Warracknabeal Cemetery.
